Critics now have another reason to question President Donald Trump’s apparent obsession with Taylor Swift. On May 16, 2025, the same day he wrapped up his trip to the Middle East, the president took to social media to share his thoughts on the 35-year-old pop star. Basically, he doesn’t think she’s “hot” anymore, and even suggested that he has something to do with it.
Seemingly out of nowhere, Trump wrote, “Has anyone noticed that, since I said ‘I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,’ she’s no longer ‘HOT?'” on Truth Social. He didn’t explain what he meant by this, but the post raised eyebrows for multiple reasons.
One Trump critic on X questioned the president’s priorities, writing, “presidents shouldn’t be obsessing over pop stars there’s bigger things to worry about.”

Another critic compared Trump to a “mean girl in high school” even though he’s 78 years old and the president of the United States. “90 years old but he’s out here living likes he’s a mean girl in high school,” they wrote.
Several people also questioned why Trump seems “so obsessed” with Swift, given that this is not the first time he’s criticized her. “man’s more concerned about taylor swift than the actual state of america … STAY AWAY FROM HER,” one critic said.

Some critics took it a step further and said Trump’s “obsession” with the singer is “really weird and concerning at this point.” Regardless of how he might feel about her, one person pointed out that going on social media to criticize a pop star doesn’t seem particularly “presidential.”
— lima 🩻 (@SoberSaturn) May 16, 2025i don't get this… i can name hundreds (if not thousands) of celebrities who have spoken against Donald Trump, yet only Taylor Swift gets dragged for it
it's really weird and concerning at this point.. https://t.co/IaYpThG4fi
However, some people defended Trump’s post and found humor in it. “Donald Trump is COOKING Taylor Swift at 9:30 in the morning. I LOVE it!!” one person wrote on X. Another person referred to him as “the funniest president ever.”
In September 2024, not long after Swift said she would be voting for Kamala Harris in the presidential election, Trump spoke about her on Fox & Friends. He said he is “not a Taylor Swift fan.” Days later, he took to Truth Social to declare, ““I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!”
He also posted about Swift on Truth Social after the Super Bowl in 2025. “The only one that had a tougher night than the Kansas City Chiefs was Taylor Swift. She got BOOED out of the Stadium. MAGA is very unforgiving!” Trump wrote on Truth Social at the time.
He wasn’t always quite so critical of Swift. Even though he thinks she’s not “hot” anymore, he once described her as “beautiful.” In November 2023, he told Varietyco-editor-in-chief Ramin Setoodeh, “I think she’s beautiful — very beautiful! I find her very beautiful. I think she’s liberal. She probably doesn’t like Trump.”
He added, “I hear she’s very talented. I think she’s very beautiful, actually — unusually beautiful!”
